SPONSORS are being sought for
the provincial Environment Youth
Team (E-Team) program.

Environment, Lands and Parks Minister
Cathy McGregor was on hand at Maplewood
Flats in North Vancouver recently to announce
a target of 1,580 new youth jobs with the pro-
gram.

The E-Team program connects young peo-

ple, age 16-24, who are not in school, with
employers.

The young people work on a variety of envi-
ronmental and outdoor recreational projects.
The E-Team subsidizes wages and benefits
while sponsors provide support costs such as
training, supplies and travel.

At least 20% of project time must be dedi-
cated to training in the areas of environmental
awareness, safety, job readiness and life skills.

Green youth program support needed —

The deadline tor sponsor applications is
June 23.

Eligible sponsors include businesses, labor
groups, native organizations, non-profit
groups, school districts, governments and
other community organizations.

The Maplewood Flats area has been
improved through the program. Since ast
April, 30 E-team workers have contributed
more than 11,000 hours to make the site

restore marshland habitat, and construct bird
nesting sites and a bridge over a former barge
channel.

The project was sponsored by Myert Corps
Inc. of Vancouver. Said McGregor,
“Maplewood Flats is now a beauuful site to
visit and a jewel once again for the communi-
