On her first of two nuns at the world-class competition, the Lions Bay resident flipped over just after passing Gate 22, missirig the final three gates while struggling to right her kayak. “Basicaily it ali came down to my last run,” Langford says, teferring to the final race but _ also to her years of hard work leading up to a three-minute ride down 288,000 cubic feet of raging whitewater that would decide her Olympic fate. “You can simulate race con- ditions in train- ing,” Langford says of the pres- sure. “But there’s no way you can recreate what I felt on Friday.” Despite hav- § ing to wait over . two hours to get her chance at redemption, Langford . kept focused and nailed her final run, guaranteeing herself a plane ride to Adanta in July.
