dangerous portion of Marine
Drive.

Ata meeting earlier this month,
West Vancouver District, Councit
_teceived several letters from people
asking for a bridge replacement.

However, the only. person to
speak on the subject that night was
an Erwin Drive resident who
opposed to the proposal. According
to proponents, the foot-bridge was
built some time before 1925.

Bowl was logged. a number of fogs
and tangled debris from cut trees
washed down the creek, caught on
the bridge supports and caused a
log jam that resulted ina flood,

After a particularly heavy cain-

fall, the bridge gave way.

Al the time, it would haye cost
$6,000 to replace the bridge.

By 1992. when residents pushed
to have the bridge rebuilt, the cost
was estimated at $100,000 for a
steel structure, :

Merler subsequently secured a
$53,850 estimate from a modular
bridge company, but the. municipal
engineering department. indicated
that such @ project would not stand
up against other West- Vancouver
spending priorities.

Mayor Mark Sager said that the
earliest. such a project could be
considered would be next year.
