Here's some Amy insight as post- ed on the Internet from Tuebingen . Germany, The Amy Grant archive is available on the World Wide Web at + http://www.ipc.uni-tucbingen.de/art Amy on reading: “I was (and still am) a. voracious reader all through school. 1 have forgotten most of the books I read, but some of my favorites that do stand out are: E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web and Stuart’ Liule, the Laura Ingalls Wilder series, Naney Drew. and Ramona The — Pest series, Huckleberry Finn and Where The Red Fern Grows. “tS always enjoyed being read to when | was quite young. There was one person in particular that Twas especially fond off a cousin, but actually more like an aunt as she was my mother’s age. She was an English teacher who never married. She treated my sisters and [as if we were her own children. “The most vivid memory | have of our reading together was when she lived with our family, ft almost became a ritual for us, After waking up from a nightmare in the middle of the night, | would creep down to her room “and she would pall out this great big book of poctry (my : favorite was The Highwayman) and read to me until | feli asleep, Then. I'd-wet her bed and we'd have to “relocate, What a wonderful woman! She, more than any other individual . instilled in me a love.of words and books. That's what inspired me: to ‘major i in English Lit whee I wentto college.” . Amy on writing: “I never actual- ly wrote any stories. When | was 15, ‘TL began writing unrequited love songs, The first time I wrote a song about my faith in Christ was for a very specific purpose. J-attended a the mest) boring half “chapel” in the world. “LT wanted so much for all the girls there to know about the reality of God and who he really was and | felt the chapel services there did him such un injustice. So. I wrote songs to sing for them never imagining that it would become my life's work. You never know what those teen- aged notes and doodles might turn into.” Amy on drug and alcohol abuse: “L feel that there are three basic hour of reasons someone turns to drugs: they are bored: they are mad at someone else and use it as retalia- lion; they haven't figured out who they are and hide behind the sub- stance out of insecurity. “Life is a process of becoming who you are. The longer 1 live, the more I realize just how short it is. Anytime you take a detour from that process, you are robbing yourself of that “becoming” time. “Putting these chemical sub- stances into your body is destructive to every area of your life -— physi- cal, emotional, intellectual and spir-~ itual, The younger and less mature " your body is. the more likely you are to become addicted after only one or two exposures to the drug (depend- ing upon the strength and addictive- ness of the particular substance). “But even worse than its effect on your body is the effect on your “heart.” It introduces a deep-seated patiern of lies and deceit. You might >=. think it doesn’t affect anything else, but it affects everything.” Po Mn on’t miss these sweet deals at A&W for Valentine’ § Day... *1.49 A&W Double Cheeseburger i For 3 weeks our A&W double cheese: burger Is on sale for just.1.49.
