OU WANT gossip? | got gossip. Seems the British Pro- perties is turning into a romantic Mount Penatubo — we will sean see what promise to be mega- nasty divorces, both from Mount Propertubo couples. Louise Aird tree nner etn BRIGHT LIGHTS Normally, | don’t care what people do behind closed doors but these two cases are so twisted, they intrigued me. The first is simple. The husband, who's president of a high-profile B.C. corporation, got caught swimming in the secretarial pool. In the act. By his wife. For the third time. The twist is that this husband is a bible-thumping rider of the family values bandwagon. Anyone who's - ever been stuck at his table has heard his views on the importance of hearth and home, wife and kids, church, etc. ‘IHypocrites just can’t get away with anything any more. kee The Second story is more inter- * esting. Several months ago, | met a Mount Propertubo woman at a North Shore event and she told me, in her Cockney accent, that she'd attended a certain English boarding school, Well, | went to a school near the + one she named and | know that the latter is a school for boys. And there aren't a lot of Cockney- accented graduates from those schools, She was lying. | figured she was one walking wounded from the British class system and more power to her. No big deal. Well, she wasn’t lying only-to me, She was lying to her husband. And to her wwo boyfriends. And to her fiance. ‘ Her boyfriends and her fiance, all North Shore bacheloss, thought she was a temporarily poor heiress. So they gave her money. ‘Lots and lots of money. : To explain all this dough, plus a huge engagement ring, and with her mother as her accomplice, she told her husband that her father had died ‘and left her millions. Then father shows up. Father meets fiance. Fiance meets boyfriend. Boyfriend meets boyfriend, Husband meets the whole gang, Then it got reall, Because once the doadoo hit the fan, this woman — in front of witnesses — atlacked the hus- band, seratched and banged herself up then called the West Van poiice, alleging wife battery (she wants the kids). Can't say more until court pro- ceedings begin, But stay tuned, Methinks that Mount Propertubo will soon be spewing. kkk In 1991, the Diane Farris Gallery hosted Four Brothers Mayrs, 3 showing of the work of, obviously, the Mayrs brothers. This show came about after West Van's Charlie Mayrs bought gallery space that Farris had do- * nated to Endeavour and stayed a show with his siblings. . Farris was pleasantly surprised to discover the group and the show of the work of Charlie, Frank, Bill and David was a huge success. _ The six Mayrs kids grew up in West Van, following their 1947 move fram Winnipeg. The brothers all became artists ~- Charlie went into graphic design and is now president of Dome Advertising; Bill, who founded Westworld Magazine, is now a publication and design consultant living in North Van; David is an artist and Emily Carr College teacher also living in North Van; and Frank is a photographer and full-time painter who lives on a farm outside of Ot- tawa. (He also designed our EXPO logo — Charlie designed the SkyTrain graphic.) The other night, a good crowd gathered at the gallery for another show, this time of Frank’s work. The May's sisters — Margaret and Irene ~ were there, as were all the Mrs. Mayrs — Charlie and David both married Marys, Frank was with his wife Patricia, and Bill came with Nonic, - Patrick Reid stopped in — en route to Hawaii — to plunk down a tidy sum for Frank’s “irish” painting and West Van gals Liz Tuck and Jennifer Hobson turned up to see their mother, Mary Frances Tuck, who is the Van- couver artist also currently show- ing at the gallery. Twe West Van gentlemen also appeared ~~ Nebraska-born Don Bourn and his partner, Texan Alex Blodgett. . Bourn and Blodgett are recent arrivals who are partners in Pacific Bridge Investments, which is the ~ sponsor and orchestrator of a coup for Diane Farris ~ she will be Opening a second, temporary gallery, in the plush downtown Park Place, where a steady stream of business traffic will become a lucrative audience for the work of her artists. ; 1 might as well stay on the subject of art... ‘ SS taiens.s ARTIST MARY Frances Tuck (left) and daughter Jennifer Hobson ‘were aiso spotted at the Diane Farris Gallery.
