Collision damage waiver (CDW) is another ‘extra’? you may be offered. It is not insurance. If purchased, the company waives the right to collect the deductible on its collision insurance’ from you. CDW is optional and it’s il- legal: for a company to require you to purchase it, Again, check your auto insurance policy or credit card company to see if they cover damage to rental vehicles. Before signing the contract, read and understand everything printed on it, including the back of the contract, where the condi- tions and limitations are stated. Altima is built at Nissan’s plant in Smyrna, Tenn., recently ex- panded to cover 118 acres — making it the largest auto-making facility under one roof, anywhere in North America. It employs nearly 6,000 people and can pro- duce 450,000 cars and trucks a year. One of Smyrna’s showpieces is Nissan’s new Intelligent’ Body Assembly System (IBAS) — a patented arrangement of 51 robots, operating in an area about the size of a car wash and dedicated to automatically assembling car bodies.
