FOSTER PARENTS NV church helps African child DURING THE S0th anniversary year of Foster Parents Plan of Canada, a special commitment has been made by St. Simon's Anglican Church ACW in North Vancouver, Church members have become foster parents to little Mercy of Kenya. The members’ small mon- thly contribution brings help to the foster child, the family and the community. The objective is not dependency, but to help the family become in- dependent and self-supporting through programs of medical and dental care, vocational training and counselling by social workers. RURAL AREAS All programs are adapted to the needs of the people, and tend to be concentrated in rural areas where the whole community can benefit through the provision of such items as wells and schools. Educa- tion is stressed, and all school-age members of foster families are en- couraged to attend school. Foster parents are advised an- nually of the family’s progress, and a regular exchange of letters builds the relationship.
