SINGLE FAMILY home
sales through the Multiple
Listing Service in the final
quarter of 1986 increased
over the same quarter the
previous year.

The Real Estate Board of
Greater Vancouver reports
4,011 single family home
sales from October 1
through December 31, 1986,
compared to 3,563 sales in
the same category in that
period of 1985. Total single

year was 13,045, a two per
cent increase over the 12,743
sold the previous year.
Condominium sales were
significantly higher
throughout the Greater
Vancouver area with year-
end sales of 1,797 attached
(townhouse) units 10 per
cent higher than the 1,625
units sold in 1985, and
apartment sales registering a
25 per cent increase from
1,838 in 1985 to 2,307 last

Condominium sales reflect
the high level of building
starts last year, with four
areas notably active. By
area, with 1985 sales in
brackets, the popular con-
dominium sales locations
were Burnaby, 606 (452);
Maple Ridge, 106 (83); New
Westminster 186, (79); and
the west side of Vancouver,
855 (705).

The real estate board
reports quarterly figures by
area with four price ranges

in the spread from the lowest
to highest price sale, produc-
ing four ‘median’ or middle
figures to more accurately
describe each area’s market
for all levels of buyers.
While there may appear to
be some fluctuations in me-
dian values, these are often
caused by changes in the
lower and upper price range
being quoted, which has a
