Association for the Mentally Handicapped were in reality attempts at determining the family’s schedule. The woman’s home was robbed this week during the family’s absence. Since then, the woman said, she has contacted the association and been told that she was only officially phoned twice over the past several months. “Obviously whoever was telephoning was trying to establish when we were in and when we weren’t,”’ the woman said. Her advice to residents contacted by telephone is to ask for the person’s name and telephone number and to call them back. Legitimate canvassers, she said, will agree. North Vancouver RCMP say residents should always be careful when dealing with telephone or door-to-door solicitors and canvassers. Those on legitimate business, they say, usually carry identification cards and residents should not hes- itate to ask to see them.
