The North Van SPCA is one of the best run shelters aside from its physical condi- tion. This lady has obviously not been off the North Shore. Len Golder, his family, and Fingerprint defence is ‘dangerous Dear Editor: I'd like to comment on ‘Fingerprinting Defended’, (Mailbox, June 15) and re- mind the writer that, in a democracy, everyéne is en- titled to their point of view. To label those who don’t agree with us ‘mentally ill’’ is not only immature but sug- gests a totalitarian stripe as well. This letter, while extoll- ing personal freedoms on one hand, cuts down with the other: i.e. we all must think alike. In’ a world where democracy is tenuous at best, this is an extremely dangerous attitude. With ink pad and sheet of paper, parents might as well do the job themselves. Surely even the lowest 1.Q. could handle that tiny task. So far, nary a nickel there has a fate worse than death. . Mrs. Dawsons problem. does not lig with the SPCA, it lies with the pet owners. They’re irresponsible, they don’t think whether there is room in the community for more animals before their pet becomes pregnant and don’t get around to fixing them afterwards. All the SPCA does is become the middle man between unwanted pets and new owners. Unfortunately there is an already over-populated world? Then there’s the question of whether or not school at- tendance should be com- pulsory. Many experts are now saying no. The present system is ineffective at best and downright harmful at worst. In fact, there’s a definite trend towards educating one’s children at home, thus avoiding, amongst other ills, the drug culture, so prevalent in to- day’s schools. Johnson then goes on to praise the virtues of seatbelts in a somewhat emotional way. We are all aware that seatbelts can save lives, however, there are many in- stances where the survivor of an accident, would have perished if he’d been wearing one.
