Since the introduction of modern technology in the form of word processing and data processing equipment, offices are moving into an atmosphere that will require increased typing skills for everyone. The Business Office Training Program at Capilano Coliege recognizes ‘modern needs and meets them by using up to date equipment in their courses. students are trained on IBM Selectric typewriters and students are given the opportunity to learn the operation of the college's word processing equipment. But, the more traditional skills are not neglected. Formats for business_letters, statistical materials, forms and memos are part of the basic typing course. “We try to train all around office workers,’ said Ludgate. “A great deal of emphasis is placed on English skills. A systematic review of grammar, punc- tuation and spelling are an integral part of the six month program.” Ludgate feels that the college’s program is meeting modern office needs. “Although a six month program is relatively short,” she pointed out, “our students are getting very exciting, well paid jobs.” Can she type? “Of course - - it’s essential.” Places are available in the Business Office Training program on a monthly basis.
