IT WAS the best of 4, It was
the worst of '94, Yes, it’s a
new year and that means only
one thing: time for the year-

end bravos and boes.

crate, perceptive view of corruption
in the name of entertaining the mass-
cs,
2) Forrest Gump: Over-hyped, but
still a moving history lesson (and
another Oscar for Tom Hanks
3) Pulp Fiction: These grim, violent.
funny and riveting crime stories con-
fer the Sam Peckinpah Gory Poetry
awitrd on director Quentin Tarantino.
4) Nell: Superior melodrama graced
by Jodie Foster's magical perfor-
mance,
5) Maverick: Mel Gibson, Jodie

had a rollicking dime. So did the
audignee,

O) Widow's Peak: About as Irish as
green beer, but still a hugely enjoy-
able mystery-comedy,

7) Destiny in Space: MAX'S stage
geringly bigger-than-life documen-
tary on NASA's future plans mide
us all armchair astronauts.

8) Fresh: Best kid performance ina
refreshingly tricky mystery that
bleeds inner-city bleakness,

9) The Lion King: Nobody can
touch Disney for canioon wizardry
and this hit shows then at their
mass-appeal zenith,

10) The Paper: Ron Howard's
breathless. funny newspaper farce
delivers a terrific ensemble cast
including Michael Keaton and Glenn
Close.

Now, the hisses, How many of

ber?

1) Mixed Nuts: Rancid. Director
Nora Ephron (Sfeepless in Seattle)

2) Trapped in Paradise: Vrappet,
yes. Paradise’? If only.
