Family hoedown to
be held this Friday

FALL FAMILY HOEDOWN...
The North Shore Neighbourhood
House is hosting a Fall Family
Hoedown on Friday, Sept. 24,
from 7 to 11 p.m., at its North
Vancouver location (225 East 2nd
Ave.). Brian Bull and his group
from Dance Expressions wil! be on
hand to teach the basics of line
dancing, and you can try your
stuff to the sounds of alive
country and western band. Other
activities include: bingo and face
painting for the kids, horseshoes,
and other down-home fun. Light
refreshments, including beer, will

SPEAKERS UNLIMITED...
Saving your Neighborhood will be
the topic in the next lecture at the
Silk Purse Art & Cultural Centre,
1570 Argyle Ave., West Van-
couver, on Saturday, Sept. 25,
from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Michael
Kluckner will address ways estab-
lished neighborhoods can retain
essential character and preserve
heritage while adapting to chang-
ing times and new construction.
The cost of the lecture is $10,
preregistered, and $12 at the door.

CONTEST... The fifth annual
garden contest awards night takes
place on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7
p.m. in the Tamarack Room of
the Delbrook Community Centre,

an illustrated talk, followed by the
presentation of awards and a slide
show featuring some of the

OPERATION EYESIGHT UNI-
VERSAL... A benefit lunch for
Operation Eyesight Universal, a
registered charity that works to
restore sight and prevent blindness
for people in developing countries,
will be held on Friday, Oct. 1 at

1068 Inglewood Ave., West Van-
couver. Kevin Evans, CBC Even-
ing News anchor, will be the guest
