The diversity of island culture of-
fers the weekend traveller many op-

selection of unique works at galleries
and studios as well as at the popular
Saturday morning market - now an
istand tradition.

Salt Spring Island is often called
the crafty island and in the coming
weeks the islanders will prove true to
that name.

The weekend of November 20 to
22, visitors will be treated to the ar-
rival of the Salt Spring Island Guild's
pre-Christmas sale at Mahon Hall in
Ganges, the island’s largest com-
munity.

This longtime annual event has
gained popularity and patronage
from islanders and mainlanders alike
who are drawn to the excellent quali-
ty and unique presentation of the
works.

The sale showcases the works cof
Salt Spring Island’s arts and crafts
guild members including potters,
painters, weavers, woodworkers,
and jewellers. Many of these people
have gained international recogii-
tion for their work.

Profits made at the sale are
reinvested into the guild through ar-
tists’ workshops and the purchase of
books and equipment.

Travellers to the island can also
look forward to the Beaver Point
craft fair. Held on the weekend of
December 4 to 6, this is always a
very popular island event.

There are also many other com-
pelling reasons to visit Sait Spring
Island. In addition to its artistic
culture, the island offers a myriad of
activities including hiking,
beachcombing, cycling, and canoe-
ing as well as horseback riding,
country walks, and bird-watching.
