NEWS BRIEFS Mian held for observation A 27-YEAR-old Calpary man was taken to Lions Gate Hospital for psychiatric observation May $3 following an unusual incident in West Vancouver. According to a West Vancouver Police spokesman, 2 police officer noted a vehicie following a bus along Marine Drive at about 6:20 p.m. The vehicle weuid pull in and stop behind the bus whenever the bus halted at a bus stop. A patrol car attempted to pull the driver over. The driver eventually stopped in the 1700 block sf Marine Drive, rolled up the windows of his car, turned up the esr stereo, stuck his driver’s licence against the window and allegedly made a rude gesture to the police officer with his finger. i Poiice subsequently smashed a window of the car and 1 arrested the suspect for obstructing a police officer. But once placed in the police car, the man kicked out a window of the cruiser. The police called an ambulance for backup and the man was taken to Lions Gate Hospital. Jail term for car theft A 34-YEAR-GLD man was sentenced recently in North Vancouver provincial court to a total of six weeks in jail on charges of auto theft and assault. David Allan Friesan, of no fixed address, was sentenced May 3 to a two-week jail term after he pleaded guilty to stealing a Chevrolet Nova on June 14, 19990. He was sentenced to an additional four weeks in jail after ne was found guilty of assaulting a man on Aug. 7, 1990. dudge D.E. Moss ordered Friesan to serve the two sentences consecutively
