itty 8 - Sunday, August 20, 1989 - North Shore News MAILBOX NVD Council attitude inspires terror Dear Editor: I keep experiencing incredulicy when I read the news and, in a profound way, sheer, relentless terror. I refer, on this occasion, to North Vancouver District Council, who, when discussing the Greater Vancouver Transportation Task Force study, were unable to second a motion by Alderman Ernie Crist that rapid public transit options be added to council’s concerns (North Shore News, July 26). This local lack of leadership in the face of the realities of global warming is frightening. We have been informed by scientists that the combustion of fossil fuels are responsibie and that car emissions are the major source. My transportation wish list in- Still waiting fer cart Dear Editor: We were very amused to read your article NVD still trying to unload waste carts in the July 9 Paper. . Perhaps we can shed some light on why North Vancouver District has at least one surplus cart in their care. We mailed our order form and cheque for a waste cart in early January. To date we have not received our cart, despite a tele- phore cail to NVD offices and confirmation by the accounts department that the order was received and our cheque cashed in February. Subsequent telephone cails have been met with profuse apologies and an assurance that the matter will be looked into, but, alas, still no waste cart. We are not too concerned about an explanation for the delay (nor- mal delivery is three weeks, we are teld). However, we would be delighted to awake one morning to discover our wasie cart has been safely delivered to its rightful owner and the crows, dogs and raccoons forced to seek another address to scavenge garbage on garbage day. Jane and Ted Harris North Vancouver Use carts for clippings Dear Editor: Glad to see that North Van- couver District still has over 3,000 of those ridiculously large, wheeled garbage cans. When one is recycling (and hopefully we all will be doing so next year) one’s paper, metal arid glass, and has a compost heap, it is difficult to have more than one an baby fat brown paper shopping bag of gar- bage a week. However, they might be very good if used specifically for garden clippings.
