Just received my copy of PACIFIC HOSTELLER, published by the Canadian Hostelling Association. What caught my eye was a contest open to all potential travellers (Number “1” for high-school and youth fare potentials - under 26 years, and Number “2” for older” people). It asks you to plan. an itinerary, using hotels and. passes over Britain for | “}” and the rest‘of the world (sixty countries have hostels) for the older entrants. You've got to take 31 days and- use them to the best advantage. Prizes aren't decided yet but. they seem to think that some major travel merchandisers:. will hop forth with offerings. Who knows? Might be-fun to try. —feacher's enquiries are That airline ~ welcome. Anyone who is living with this problem knows that salt is present in almost every tinned food, many frozen foods and in EVERY restaurant meal. Cheese is loaded with the stuff, bread has some, butter is usually doused with it and no restaurant cook will part with his shaker. Airlines will provide salt- free meals, given warning. The only way to travel and remain uncontaminated by- the sodium bug is ‘to go immediately to your own condo and cook your own food. You must be knowledgable about “safe” foods and the other kind. If you are stranded in some wierd and wonderful place, stick to milk, fresh fruit and hard boiled eggs. I wish the world realized how much harm salt does to most of us and gradually eliminated it from food preparation. If some idiot wants to slather it around, let him do it himself. Speaking of special airline meals, I think it’s marvellous the way airlines - most of them, anyway, cater to special passengers.
