‘North Vancouver District Council could “send up reconsidering- a decision made at last week's meeting not to change street parking arrangements for visitors of the Woodcroft strata complex on the west side of Capilano River. ° Traffic technician Norm Nikkel has told the News — that members of the strata councils have come up with some new suggestions on coping with the area’s parking problems and council members may wish to consider them. Yo. In addition, Woodcroft representative Doug Astbury has since complained that’. council was not made aware of certain foul-ups in a sample traffic count for the area when making its decision. Woodcroft residents want residents-only parking restrictions on the streets leading to their bridge across the river to be quashed, complaining there are no parking facilities for visitors -of the complex to leave their cars.- They | claim “that, frequently all their available . guest parking bays are filled and visitors are having to search for parking facilities a long walk from Woodcroft's only entrance while_parking Spaces marked for residents only on surrounding streets are often unused. Council, in a decision deferred from the June 25 meeting, agreed that they could see no reason for a change in the parking arrangements on nearby streets, and that Woodcroft will have to. find other solutions. _ The District jointly conducted a traffic count with Woodcroft guards of the number of visiting vehicles turned away June 1 and two. Astbury says he told Nikkel that the correct figure of rejected cars far. June 2 had been 22, that the traffic technician had agreed ‘that was an accurate figure and that mayor Don Bell had also been informed but council was not aware of it when rejecting the residents’ application. “Surely we wouldn't have . spent the taxpayers’ money or wasted our time if we only had a turnaway of” one vehicle per weekend. It was 22 vehicles turned away and the following weekend it was 28,” he insists. ! Nikkel says he doubts whether council members were unaware of the change in survey results and that he feels they made the decision not to change parking arrangements in spite of those results. His advice to Astbury is: “Perhaps what he ’ should do the seniors’ cheque for is phone some of the -_ aldermen and see if they - were familiar there were more cars turned away that ‘day. Who knows, perhaps they -might reconsider the | whole thing." But he commented on the difference in survey results: “That still doesn’t mean there was a parking problem, because our studies e that night show there plenty of on-street par! available for those turned away. Even so, he said Astbury had since come up with some other proposals that Nikkel would have liked to have been considered before the decision was made and which might justify another look at the problem. | i} 4 _ twoyearsago. ~ ; groups, - and have. offered to. lease . parts. of". -the Delbrook ~ building.
