Questioning Collins ideal DOUG COLLINS has always been a controversial writer, and especially over the last few weeks he has sought to make himself a more noticeable, more irritating force in the eyes of many. Personally, I respect the man for his belief in speaking his mind, even if there isn’t really much that he says. Whenever it seems that there is a lull in inter- esting things to say, he reverts to his ‘‘white is good*’ platform. This column is not meant to insult anyone who is reading it, rather it is another opinion on the view of * life that Doug Collins has. Mr. Collins seems to believe that the only true Canadian is a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant , Heterosexual Male, and that the _fest_of us are aberrations to his perfect society. Perhaps someone forgot to tell — him that Nazi Germany sort of collapsed a few years ago. . He-has lashed out at homosex- ‘uals — faggots and lezzies he calls them — for being who they are. It would be wise, Doug, to look up some medical journals and read about it. Maybe you’ll realize that for them, it is a biological func- tion. . He has taken shots at. the ‘aboriginal people, the only real and true Canadians, for their wanting some rights for self- determination. He has called them unpatriotic for wanting to have ‘some say in their personal lives. By Taleeb Noormohamed Zap! But more importantly, 1 feel, and: because it affects me, is that he has blamed minorities, perhaps more out of insecurity than ig- norance, for a whole slew of things that are wrong with Cana-. dian society. © - He has said that minorities have ruined Canada by bringing the crime rate up and by being, for the most part, criminals. Maybe if Doug contacts StatsCan he will see that the ratio of crimes com- mitted to the number of minorities is far lower and that the ratio of crimes to whites is far higher. On average, the crimes committed by whites are more violent as well. This is not me speaking, these are the facts. On the same note, he has said that minorities are not ‘‘real Ca- nadians’’? because they wish to teach their children the culture of their forefathers. It is this educa- tion, Mr. Collins, that keeps mi- nority children from committing crimes like hiring friends to kill their families like Darren Huenemann, or killing other in- nocents as in the Jamie Bains case. ‘He has made it clear that in his opinion, as narrow-minded as they are, minorities are not wel- come here. What he does not real- ize, | think, is that tike his forefa- thers before him, all minorities come to Canada to look-for a new home where they will be safe, where ‘they can lead a new, pro- sperous life and where they can be part of the fabric of the nation and contribute to its success. Let me say this to you, Doug Collins: I. am here to stay. My family and others like it are here to stay. We are all working to " keep Canada successful, to keep it together and to keep it the best, most friendly nation on Earth. If you can’t appreciate that, then maybe you should leave, because if you can’t work with people who look a little different, then, Doug, ‘you aren’t the real Canadian. I think they're over-reacting because on the TV show that they showed, The Bat, the Cat and the Penguin, they showed that the penguins were being taken care of very good. On the sets there was ice blocks and the (penguins) were trained vary well. They said the penguins didn’t mind wearing the missite gear. They had their own pool with very cold water im there. They got what they” needed. They were trained where they were going and whenever they went to the right piace they got a free fish. I think that’s pretty fair and I think the activists are over- reacting big time. They’re way over-reacting and it’s crazy. You look at a pet in the house, -a cat or a dog or a fish in a fish tank. What are they gonnz do, are they not going to keep pets? Are they going to go in the pet stores and buy all the fish and prt them in‘ the ocean? I don’t. think so. Massive’ over-reac- nH. ¥ don’t think they're over- reacting and I do agree with | them. I agree that it is cruel to dress them up in missile gear. I. saw Batman and [ think that is cruel. It’s totally unnecessary. How would humans like it if they. were taken to another - pianet and then put in other. clothes and stuff, it’s just-the same thing. You don't need it. I think the penguins shouldn’t be dressed up, it’s - mean. It’s like if you wanted to take people out of their en- vironment and dress them up like that. It’s just plain bull. I think they should be free and treated as good as humans. , In a way, ¥ think the animal rights activists are right cuz it’s kinda mean to the penguins. But in another way they’re always whining about some- thing. All they did was strap littie things on their backs, The penguins didn’t seem to be complaining, so I think they’re just a bunch of whiuing 6 Yes, E agree because they like it cuz they zet fish.
