Meeting will discuss LGH expansion plans $130-M hospital redevelopment THE PROPOSED $136-million redevelopment of Lions Gate Hospital will be discussed at a Sept. 10 public meeting in North Vancouver City hall. LGH president Bob Smith said city staff have put forward several options for possible redevelop- ment in addition to the LGH's proposal, which will require an Official Community Plan amendment. LGH staff and North Van- couver City staff will make pres- entations during the public meeting before opening the floor to questions. Models of the pro- posals will be on display at the meeting. “We're looking forward to a good discussion,’’ Smith said. The four options are: - redeveloping the present site without expanding to the east side of St. Andrews; rezoning the entire 300-block east of St. Andrews to Ridgeway between East 13th and East 15th for the hospital’s redevelopment and other potential development; e closing off St. Andrews so the hospital expansion would be adja- cent to the current site with a buf- fer zone between the LGH redevelopment and surrounding residents; © redeveloping the east side of St. Andrews between East 13th and East 15th, and half a block east to Ridgeway Avenue with a buffer zone between the development and residential housing. While LGH has applied for an OCP amendment according to the latter option, the hospital’s ozigi- nal master plan included the closure of St. Andrews. By Elizabeth Collings News Reporter “We got feedback that there was some concern about that (closing St. Andrews). That is our most ideal option, but we could deal without that,’’ Smith said. Parking and increased traffic are some of the issues area resi- dents may be concerned about, he said. The master plan will add 400,000 square feet to the LGH hospital! site and would take 10 years to complete. A connecting tunnel underneath St. Andrews would increase parking from 575 to approximately 937 spaces. The redevelopment proposes an increase in LGH’s extended care beds from the current 294 to 469 beds and would also upgrade the facility to current fire and build- ing regulations. LGH is now waiting for project design funding from the provincial government; Smith acknowledged the hospital is ‘‘in a pretty long queue”’ for funding. At the end of Tuesday’s public meeting, a questionnaire on the LGH redevelopment options will be handed out. The public can also attend a Sept. 23 council meeting where the LGH redevelopment will be discussed. The Sept. 10 public meeting starts at 7 p.m. in council chambers, 141 West {4th St., North Vancouver.
