Especially lovely is the named
variety ‘Uchida,’ pink with white
spots, pendant shaped with reflex-
ed petals.

Among the Orienta! group cf
lilies, one of the raost important is
‘Star Gazez,’ which strongly
resembles ‘Uchida,’ in that it, too,
is pink and heavily spotted with
red, However, its blooms tend to
be bowl-shaped and larger.
Peshaps the best known lily in
North America is the Easter Lily,
L. longiflorum. This white,
fragrant, trumpet veriety is actual-
ly native to the islands off For-
mosa.

Its large flowers are horizontal
on the stalk, so that they face di-
rectly ahead. Trumpets sometimes
also are called calyx lilies, referring
to the outer petals of the flower.

Easter lilies only bicom in the
spring as a result cf professional
forcing techniques. Normally they
bloom in the garden in midsum-
met.

As is true for other bulbous
plants, the largest healthiest. pieces
prodrce the biggest, best flowers.

If it falls on clothes or furniture,

remove it briskly with a dry brush.
