The saciety was originally form- ed in 1975 by a group of local parents who were concerned about the lack of housing options on the North Shore for the mentally handicapped. Today, with assistance from the federal and provincial govern- ments, the society operates two group homes and three low-cost rental houses. Residents staying at the group homes are funded on a per diem basis while those living in rental accommodation are subsidized so that they pay no more than 30 per cent of gross incomes. Cioverley House, a group home in North Vancouver, houses nine residents. Marineview House in West Vancouver provides a home for 10. The three rental houses, for those who are able to live in- dependently, house a total of 16 people. Each group home is staff- ed by a manager and several men- tal health workers. Jill Fisher has been managing Cloverley House for close to two years. The large, nondescript house is located in a residential neighborhood and contains three shared bedrooms, three single f * Silk Charmuse and Crepe de chine — is colours Reg $25 Sale * Silk Jacquard Prints — Reg $25 10 $30 M Sale * Silk Italian Prints — 110 cm Aeg $4010 $50 m Sale * Silk Jacquards — peg $25 10 $26 M Sale * Washer Silk — reg $15 00 to $18 00 Sate © Silk Noil — uscmreg $15 M— Sale A * Silk Duppioni — reg $25 t0 $30 M Sale Y * Swiss Cotton Knits — pian — 1:0cm Reg $30 M Sale * Swiss Cotton Knits — Prints § European Viscose Prints 140 cm Reg to $40 M Sate . 100% Cotton knits — 1207 8oz 1202 Fleece’and Ribknit Reg S12 to $16 Sale * Printed cottons — Reg $8 to 12M Sale * Bottom weight cottans seg sa sate * Linen look — eg $12 10 $1: M Sate '* Washer Crepe — 140m Reg $15. Said Fisher: ‘‘Most of the people with us have been diagnosed as having schizophrenia. One fellow we have is extremely paranoic and his life centres around the house. Others iiave their own jobs. “The demand for housing comes and goes. If we have an empty bed in a shared room with a female, we have to find the appropriate per- son. Most come from Lions Gate, some from Riverview and some come from families in need of a break and alternate housing. There’s a demand for it on the North Shore, that’s for sure,”’ she said.
