The Howe Sound Senior
Boys ‘AA’ basketball
Tournament got off to a fast
and unbelievably exciting
start on Friday night at
Carson Graham's gym-
nasium. The two opponents
were the West Vancouver
Highlanders and the Hand-
sworth Royals who had
finished fourth and = fifth
respectively in league play
and were battling in a
sudden death game for the
final berth in the double
knockout affair which began
on Monday

ball players who were to be
the key figure in the out
come of the game Instead a
grade 10) student named
Keith Horness rose to the
challenge and put on what
could be termed no less than
a shooting choice Horness
scored twenty-eight points in
the game shooting 14 for 22,
of which he nailed down 9
oul of 10 shots in the fourth
quarter only one of which

THE FIELD was a little damp (as: usual), but that didn't hamper North Shore league

soccer action between Mount Seymour Stings and Lynn Valley Don Davis Hawks.
The hard fought match ended in a draw...

minutes remaining in the
game and looked to be in a
solid position to secure the
victory. However, the
combination of © Horness’s
shooting, and the insertion
of Craig Pedersen, who had
been on the bench with four

supphed the needed punch
to put the Royals on top in a
thrilling 71-09 victory.
Scoring for the Royals on
the evening was § Keith
Horness with 28 points and
teammate Craig Pedersen

action, the Sentinel Spartans
won their first ever Howe
Sound ‘A’ Championship at
Sutherland this past
weekend. The Spartans were
very convincing in taking the
Championship as_ they
defeated Elphinstone = 107-
Howe Sound 98-71, and
in the” final downed
Sutherland Sabers 105-45
