WV man celebrates
20 years of running

RALPH MEYER, a 24-year West
Vancouver resident, celebrated 20
years of running for his health on
Feb. 1.

Meyer, a 58-year-old architect
specializing in hospitals and health
care, started running 20 years ago

in anticipation of a walking tour

he was planning in the Orient and
Australasia. ‘‘] wanted to be
healthy for that,’ he recalls.

IN THF, past 20 years, Caulfeild
resident Ralph Meyer has. chalked
up approximately 30,0G0 miles on
the trails of Lighthouse Park.

Meyer started at half a mile per
day, and now runs an average of
six. His peak daily total was be-
tween 10 or 15 miles daily.

Over the years, that’s added up
to approximately 30,000 miles log-
ged on the trails of Lighthouse
Park. Meyer, who keeps a daily
journal on his progress, says his
highest yearly total was 1,998 miles
in 1984,

The effects of his dedication are
many, but improved health and a
higher energy level top the list. ‘I
still feel tike a 35 year old,”’ he
notes.

Meyer can be seen running with
his dog Fleida nearly every day —
except during the extreme cold
West Vancouver has experienced
recently — near his Cherbourg
Drive home in the Caulfeild area.
