All of the cust speak Shakespeare well —- a tribute to both Selady and one of Canada's premier acting schools. Dean Paul Gibson and Judi Closkey excel in this regard. Mara Gottler’s costurnes and De! Surjik’s lights create more of a tone for this production than Helen ‘Jarvis’ set, which beautifully . explores height and texture but at the expense of place. _ The reversible screens are fussy to use and look like an afterthought. And while I love the idea of the monied aristocracy being wheeled through their world by the hoi poloi like so much Gucci baggage, the - cheap-looking carts undercut the concept and would look more at . home in an abandoned railway sta- tion than an Italian fashion show. Gottler’s upper-class costumes suffer slightly from the same lack of furids for finish, but her common servants who speak much of the play’s truth are a wonderfully play- ful layering of rags and tatters.
