NV home rare example of

Italian Renaissance style

{T MAY seem hard to
believe that this striking
home was built in 1907, the
same year that the City of
North Vancouver was in-
corporated.

There is a timelessness to its ar-
chitecture, known as the Italian
Renaissance style, which is a rare
example of this type in the Lower
Mainland.

The most notable features of
this home include the three-storey
turret at the entry, the deep eave
overhang, and large eave brackets
that are integral in its overall
design.

The front wrap-around entry
porch is also a prominent feature.

structed show it without the front
porch, which was added at a later
date.

Without this feature, it had
more of an institutional or
schoothouse appearance.

The home was built by the
North Vancouver Land and Im-
provement Co. as a show home
for its Ottawa Gardens develop-
ment on 6th Street, just off Ches-
terfield. Along with other homes
in the Ouawa Gardens develop-
ment, it makes an_ interesting
heritage grouping.

The above Land and Improve-
ment Co. was incorporated in
