A6 - Sunday, July 29, 1984 - North Shore News Standing tall iane Jones is not going to win the riding of Quadra. You know where Quadra is; it’s that place the other side of the water where the Prime Minister ran off to after deciding that Capilano was too hot. But Diane surely deserves a better fate than what will befall her September 4. She is running as an independant and she will be thrashed even though she is perhaps closer to the Canadian heartbeat than the front run- ners. After a lifetime of listening to politicians and observing government in Canada, Diane Jones has decided that it was time that she stopped blaming someone else for Canada’s woes. She is very strong on this, taking the adage that if you have something to say, then you say it and if you aren’t happy with the way the others are doing it, then you get out there and do it yourself. This strong willed woman is just an ordi- nary citizen who is doing her bit to help her community and her country, and one of the sad things about the image of politics today is that most people running for office just do not appear to be ‘ordinary’ people. In that so-called great debate the other night, we had both Mr. Turner and Mr. Mulroney going on at great length trying to show their humble beginnings. They were trying so hard that it made one realize that these two people just didn’t come across as our. neighbors. We need more people like Diane Jones who are willing to step into the breach. It's just too bad that nobody votes for them. Our tragedy small item in our paper Wednesday stated that 306 children under the age of 10 were killed or injured as pedestrians in B.C. last year. What a wasteful tragedy. Disease and sickness are one thing, but careless traffic accidents are something else. Parents must take the time to talk to their children about traffic and drivers must be aware that the vehicle they drive is fethal. There is no need to kill our Kids through carelessness. ‘ NS 5 RAS Ni NSS COULD JOU DIRECT US TO WHERE WE CAN CHANGE OUR CANADIAN DOLLARSP..
