A new sport suspension option (similar to the four-wheel- drive off-road package of 1983) includes white-lettered tires, styled wheels, a special quick-ratio power steering gear, larger stabilizer bar and larger shock absorbers. Automatic transmission torque converters are re- tuned in ‘84 to take better ad- vantage of power output in all available gasoline engines. Manual transmission- equipped S-10s get a new hydraulic clutch. Inside the S-10s, Blazer grab handles are relocated for greater convenience to rear seat occupants, and there are new remote control mirrors, improved door seals, new’sliding sun-shades and new colors. STANDARD PICKUP & CHASSIS CAB _ An improved fuel/water separator for the 6.2 incor- porates a: water.sensor and sending unit, a fuel filter, a fuel heater and water drain. It replaces all of the com- ponents previously used, in- cluding the, fuel tank wate sensor and drain. A new feature is a light that signals when it’s time to simplified snap-on filter replaces a threaded filter. It is mounted on the firewall on two- and four-wheel-drive pickups and at the back of the engine on other models for easy accessibility. Gasoline engines are car- ryover. The 4.1 litre L6 is standard on two- and four- wheel-drive half and three- quarter ton pickups. A 5.0 litre V8 is optional. On four- wheel-drive three-quarter ton pickups, the 5.7 litre V8 is standard. Smaller, lighter-weight automatic locking hubs on 4 by 4s do not extend out from the wheel as far as previous models. Effective vehicle width is reduced. Function is the same. But the new design is lighter, more serviceable. Front brakes have new semi-metallic linings, larger wheel cylinders and dual- mode, height sensing variable proportioning. The multi-function ‘‘smart switch”’ is available for the first time with a new elec- tronic speed control feature that gives ‘‘touch’’ one kilometre per hour up or down control. Available on all models, the stalk-mounted switch in- cludes directional signal, lane change, windshield wiper, headlamp dimmer and op- tional speed control. Other changes include new ignition lock warning buzzer; improved parking brake system, mew sealed clutch housing cover plates on 4 by 4 models to minimize mud entry, and new plastic fuel tanks shields on selected models. There are also new interior and exterior colors and new trim for both viny! and cloth seats.
