Being a food editor one
must keep up with all aspects
of the field right from the
raw material to the finished
product.

That, I guess, and not a
sense of ‘sheer perverse
bumour, is why the summer
edition of the ‘Western Hog
Journal’ turned up on my
desk this week.

Published in Edmonton,
this magazine is the lifeblood

Throughout the summer,
hog producers can ponder
such articles as “Manitoba
Board’s Annual Opposes
Vertical Integration,’ ‘Hogs
Return Low Price for
Barley,’ or even the article

-having the enigmatic title

‘Top ‘20° 1979,’ which refers
to the honour role of top
quality producers.

Of course, the most im-
portant article for B.C.
producers is the one that
tells that British Columbia

distressed farmers.

“What is the cause of tail
and ear biting by feeder
pigs?” ‘No name, Alberta’
asks.

Not one to hide his
ignorance, the columnist
replies “You have hit on a
rather difficult problem to
get a handle on.”

As with any farming
magazine, the ad-
vertisements are what really
what people read the ‘Hog
Journal’ for.
