According to the report in
the News, however, Mr.

Burbidge announced after’
the meeting that the school.

would indeed be built. One
wonders at what point Mr.
Burbidge’s moment of truth
occurred.

Unit. This unit has been
providing a very valuable
service to residents of the
North Shore, introducing
young children to thé. care. of
teeth and the work of the

and happy manner.

I know of many children,
my own included, who look
forward to visits to the
dentist and I feel sure that
this is due largely to the first
experience they had at the
Clinic. At that time the
hygienist takes time to show
the child all the implements
used by the dentist, explains
carefully about care of the
teeth and also gives a very
thorough examination.

These services cannot be
replaced by increasing
hygienists’ visits to schools

Open letter to the Medical

and dentists are not able to
provide the special child-
oriented examination that
has been provided by the
clinic.

Please re-examine the
decision to close the dental
clinic. At this time, when
preventive medicine is being
increasingly used in
progressive socicties, it
seems disgraceful to remove
from young children and
their families one of the first
and best preventions for
dental problems.
