Forth Vancouver LOCALE resident Ken Rutland, 35, will be recognized by the Kiwanis International Foundation with the Robert P. Connelly medal this Sarurday in Victoria. Rutland risked his own life to save two hikers injured in an avalanche on Grouse Mountain on January 27. The same avalanche killed Rory Manning, a visiting Ontario resident. The medal was named in honour of Illinois resident Robert P. Connelly, who died in 1996 wying to save a dis- abied women who had jumped in front of a passenger tain. The medal is awarded to a per- son, either a Kiwanian or a non- Kiwanian, who risks physi- cal harm to help someone, when he or she could “just pass along, his/her way.” Blaeridge Plans are already underway for the second — annual north shore news , EIGHBOURHOODS Blueridge Good Neighbour Day on Sept. 12.
