Propane leak closes highway LEAKING propane gas forced closure of the Squamish Highway Sunday night. The highway wes closed for approximately 2 1/2 ours after gas and propane began leaking from a motor home after it was involv- ed in a traffic accident. No one was injured in the accident, according to Squamish RCMP, but the highway closure was deemed necessary to allow the fuel to be cleared. The accident occurred at 6 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the road about 15 kilometres north of Squamish. Lennon, 34, was charged with one count of performing an indecent act in a public place. The charge followed a July 31, 1985 incident in which Lennon is alleged to have performed the act in the presence of others in the washrooms at North Vancouver's Bridgman Park. Following bis appearance Monday in North Vancouver provin- cial court, Lennon was put over to April 2 to fix a date for trial on the charge. By MAIL LUC Continuing Writer Council amended the Maplewood Official Community Plan to allow for temporary rezon- ing for @ I3-acre RY park in the Maplewood mudflats. The park, which will be able to accommodate 263 vehicles, will ex- ist for six months, and will be dismantled when the world fair closes its gates in October. Ald. Joan Gadsby, the sole council member opposing the RV Park, told council that the park may adversely affect the ecosystem in the North Shore's last salt-water marsh that the park site fronts. Residents in the area would also see a change in their neighborhood lifestyles during the six months the park would operate, Gadsby said. “During the Expo period, the park will severely affect the lifestyles that residents are used to,”” she said. 7 Gerry McCann of the Natural History Society voiced opposition to the park at a council meeting Feb. 24, saying the developer, Mr. Epp and Associates, has not taken adequate measures to minimize environmental damage to the salt marsh, He said the marsh is home to numerous migratory bird species.
