Numbers can sometimes

Take for example the Second
Narrows Bride.

When you consider the
ages and life expectancy from
actuary tables of the iren
workers who Jost’ their lives
during the construction of the
bridge, the tragedy took an
estimated total of 320 years in
lost life.

Think abeur this! The
bridge authority estimates
thar every day, 186,000. vehi-
cles travel over the two North

Shore bridges. While many of

these vehicles carry just one
person, it is conservative to
project that there are another
25,000 people traveling as
Passengers.
Since repairs began on the
‘Second Narrows "Bridge I
have personally logged the
additional time spent in the
traffic zoo caused by the con-
struction.
- While actual minutes vary
daily, the average time
increase over travel time
before the construction began
is 24 minutes. That inconve-
nience was endured not just
“by the 186,000 drivers and
25,000 passengers, but also
30,000 people: who simply
work near the — bridge
entrances and were caught up

Perhaps the bridge should
now be re-named The North
Shore Citizens Memorial
Second Narrows Bridge.

Or perhaps we should just
pass some fife sentences on
