NV teacher wins Mollie Nye award LYNN VALLEY elementary school teacher Leslie Purvis was named the first-ever recipient of the Mollie Nye Award at the Sept. 27 North Vancouver District 44 School Board. NORTH VANCOUVER SCHOOL BOARD By Kevin Gillies The award, named after long- time North Vancouver teacher Mollie Nye, was established by the board in 1992 at the request of late trustee Anne Macdonald. It -vill be given to a North Vancouver teacher annually in recognition of his or her contributions to the community. Purvis, who is involved in com- munity activities like Lynn Valiey Days, the Coho Festival, Morning of Music, the Red Cross, Spor s Day and the Brownies, said she was greatly honored and enjoyed teach- ing in Lynn Valley. In accepting the award from Nye, Purvis told the gallery that she drives by Nye’s home every day and looks for her in her garden. Nye was a teacher in North Vancouver for 42 years before retiring from Sutherland secondary in the 1970s. Purvis was nominated by her peers at Lynn Valley elementary.
