BOWEN ISLAND Change in ferry times made to aid commuters THE B.C. Ferry Corp. (BCFC) will change the Bowen Island-Horseshoe Bay sailing schedule to im- prove bus connections for morning commuters. By Juiie Ovenell-Carter Contributing Writer At a town meeting sponsored by the Bowen Island Transporta- tion Committee last Saturday, BCFC cperations manager Capt. Tom Whelan told a vocal group of 50 islanders that advancing the first two morning sailings by 10 minutes will ensure people get to work and school on time. Whelan said he currently receives ‘‘at feast half a dozen phone cails’’ each morning from disgruntled commuters. The new Queen cf Capilano is consistently fate on its morning runs, which start from Snug Cove at §:55 a.m. Commuters often miss connec- ting with the express Blue Buses to Vancouver, and Bowen's 122 high schoo! students are frequently late for the start of class. Whelan said ‘‘multiple vessels moving in and out of Horseshoe Bay within 10 minutes of each other’’ create delays in the morn- ing. He said the recently completed Snug Cove dock repairs tem- porarily worsened the situation. Whelan aiso said the safety re- quirements ‘‘imposed"’ after the Nemetz inquiry, such as waiting for the mate to be on the car deck before lowering the ramp, ‘‘have added two or three minutes to our docking time.”’ Under the proposed new sched- ule, to begin *‘as soon as the marketing and public relations people can get it in place,’’ the Queen of Capilano will depart Snug Cove at 5:45 a.m.; 6:35 a.m.; 7:35 a.m. (no change}; 8:30 a.m. (no change); 9:25 a.m., 10:50 a.m. (no change); 11:40 a.m.; and 12:30 p.m. Mercedes-Benz BMW Porsche Toyota Acura Honda The desirable trades are found at: Mercedes-Benz forth hore See this issueof Automotive Classified 1375 Marine Dr. North Van 984-9351 Now, more than ever before Tilley Hat. y Tilicy ' § 1193 Manne reat Pemberton 5Be chad 5 FREE Catalogue 1-800-387-0110 ‘a E-WORLD S BEST TAAVEL CLOTHING ft exclusive quality installations by appointment only Call NORTHERN ALARM SYSTEMS LTD. 983-2255 VANCOUVER’'S LARGEST PERSIAN § RUG CORP.
