MAaAILBOx PNM should resign Dear Editor: When I heard that the Prime Minister would go on live TV on Saturday, June 23, I speculated that he would resign over the Meech Lake issue. Over two months ago, Brian Mulroney knew two very crucial facts: that Manitoba must hold public hearings on any new deal, and that Newfoundland wanted to hold a referendum on Meech. Mulroney ignored these facts because he intended to pressure these two provinces into bypassing their processes. He didn’t want to consider public oginion and he didn’t want to let the governments Of Manitoba and Newfoundland keep their promises to their peo- ple. In his own words, Prime Minister Mulroney rolled the dice. Mulroney also misled the first Mr. Vander Zaim: ‘put a sock in it’ Open Letter to Bill Vander Zalm: Willy, be a good fellow and withdraw those threats to demand the same sovereignty-association terms as Quebec. I don’t remember giving you a mandate, or are you qualified to decide Canada’s form of federalism? For now, let Quebec be the only ‘distinct society.” The other pro- vinces, including B.C., are happy to be Canadians. If the Quebecers we viewed on TV last Sunday are representative, I want NO ASSOCIATION with such embittered, angry peopie. Most who saw them would agree there is no place in a strong Canada for such animosity. Bourassa is just waiting for some clown to support his stand by making parallel demands. Don’t play into his hands or fur- nish the present government any excuse, even a feeble one, to ‘give away the store.’ Perhaps some day there will be time and reason for some changes. But please ... ask us first. Until then, put a sock in it. He stated that everything had to be passed by June 23. Then it had to be passed by Sept. 23. Now that it is dead he goes on TV to say that it’s not so bad that it didn't go through. His handling of the Meech Lake Accord was not nation building — it was game playing. For any con- stitutional reform to happen we must have full participation of all Canadians cnd Prime Minister Brian Mulroney should not be leading the process. if Brian Mulroney loved Canada as much as he says, he would resign as prime minister so that the process of healing may begin. Rutley, a counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist in North Vancouver who helps smokers kick the habit. Research tells us physical cravings stop within 72 hours. It’s the mental crav- ings or habit that most people battle. “Hypnosis,” Rutley con- tinued, “can help with keeping the person relaxed. Many peo- ple get uptight when they quit. ” It can also help to eliminate both cravings and withdrawal symptcms.” Weight gain is practically non-existent when hypnosis is used and habits are controlled at their source: the sub- conscious. The results are calmer, happier non-smokers. Daniel Rutley has been help- ing individuals stop smoking for over ten years.
