Also, I think that most teachers work very hard at their jobs and | wish most MLAs worked half as hard at their jobs. North Vancouver TEACHERS’ ORGANIZATION DEFENDED ‘Unsubstantiated statement’ Should not have been covered Dear Editor: Bill 20 and all the reactions which it has generated are certainly enough disruption for any community. | do not believe that sensationalizing headlines or un- founded news stories wiil do anything to help create a rational context for discussion of issues surrounding this controversial topic. Unfortunately, the News coverage, as evidenced in your Ballot Stuffing headline, helps to create addi- tional anxiety over events which may not have occur- red as reported. In the context of a meeting with students, our MLA, the Honorable. Angus Ree, made a comment about possible election irregularities which he had been told had occurred somewhere at some BCTF meeting. At this time, 1 asked our MLA to specify as to who would make this accusation, or at least iden- tify the local association where such events had taken place. Mr. Ree did not specify either to the audience or later to reporters. It is unfortuante that an unsubstantiated statement of this nature is given any respect by our community media. If such irregularities had occurred in North Vancouver, our association wishes to know so that an appropriate investigation cam be held and a report be given to our members. Otherwise, such accusations should not be casually mentioned. Public office is too responsible a position to be used for making unfounded allegations so that an entire organization’s reputation can be brought to disrepute. Our community media should be aware of that. Andrew J. Krawezyk, president North Vancouver Teachers’ Association 7 - Friday.
