NV STUSENT HITS BIG TIME Danger Bay actress: just a hometown girl FOR NORTH Vancouver actress Sharon Biro, working on an episode of the television series Danger Bay can be described in two words: a change. “The role {| was playing was a girl of about 13 or 14 years old,"’ Biro recalls of her recent part in the locally filmed Walt Disney series. “That's a drastic change,"’ the 16-year-old Biro laughs. ‘Usually I’m trying to look older instead of younger.’’ In the episode, titled All the King’s Horses, the Carson Graham student plays a character who is ‘basically a country girl.” SMALL SCREEN DRAMA In the show, conflict arises when the girl's father pressures her to win a horse jumping champion- ship. ‘‘He’s a very domineering person,’’ she says of her charac- ter’s father, played by Patrick Wayne. “He basically says you're no good unless you win,’’ she describes of the father’s attitude. But although Wayne may be in- tense on camera, off camera, she says, he is completely different. “He said I looked like his own daughter,’’ she remembers. Giggling, she recalls, ‘‘I said ‘Since you’re so good looking, I'll take that as a compliment.’”’ Since Danger Bay wrapped up filming Sept. 2, the brown-haired Biro has been waiting to be called for some more auditions. ‘‘] just sit and wait for the auditions but I do things that will help me get parts. “I read lines; I've taken drama; I’ve taken workshops — things like that,’”’ she explains. While she won’t say how much money she has earned from her work, Biro does !et slip that she plans to buy a car soon. ‘*But not a new car,’ she hastens to add. ‘'1 don’t have qiite that much.”’ She says she has no boyfriend: “1 wish,’’ she laments. ‘But there is somebody in the past, the very recent past.”” PAINLESS EDUCATION When she finishes high school, sh: plans to go to the University of B.C. to Become an anaesthesiologist. ‘‘Just don’t ask me how to spell it,’’ she laughs. But what if a really big acting part turns up? She says her studies won't take a back seat to acting, but school might have to be postponed for a while. ‘If some- thing big comes up... well hey,’’ she says. Ever since she was 12 years old, Biro has wanted to appear on the daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless. ‘1 watch it every day,’’ she says, as if she expects disbelief. If she cannot watch it in person, a video recorder captures every episode for later viewing. ‘‘Some- times I watch a whole week (of the show) on the weekend."’ For Biro, acting often turns out to be a family affair. Her mother and 13-year-old sister get in on the action. ‘‘We do it all together,’’ she says. “My mom tries (for parts) 1oo,”” explains Biro. ‘‘She's been to quite a few auditions and does quite a lot of bit parts.” Join Dal Richards & his Orchestra Fri., Oct. 3 or Sat., Oct. 4 We invite you to spend a fabulous weekend of dining and dancing al our wonderful resort.
