Locally-built boat

WHEN THE Greater Vancouver Regional Water District
decided to replacing an aging, wooden patrol boat on
Capilano Lake, it didn’t have to look far.

Last week, the GVWD took delivery of the replacement
craft — a 20-foot mini-tug built by North Shore
aluminium boat-builder Howard Jamieson.

Like its predecessor, the new work boat was hand-built.
Unlike the 30-year-old craft-tt replaces, however, (that
boat was built by a water board employee), the new
features all the modern ‘‘conveniences’’.

Among the features of the craft are a four-cylinder
Isusu diesel inboard engine, Borg Warner hydraulic gear
and Capilano hyrdaulic steering. The enclosed cabin can
accomodate three or four men.

Jamieson builds the aluminium work boats in a number
of configurations at his base at Lynnwood Marina.
