Puppets can be
teaching tool

PUPPETS have long been a favorite form of
entertainment for children, but educators and
therapists are now finding that they can be used
in many other ways to help young people.

Marjorie Woods, longtime member of the Vancouver Guild
of Puppetry, will be at the Capilano branch of the North
Vancouver District Library on Tuesday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. to
talk about some of these new aspects of her art.

Woods believes that “puppetry encourages cooperation and
generates self-estecm, and helps a child tu develop creativity and
better listening habits, to express feelings and to speak clearly.”

Puppets can also be used in dynamic and role-playing situa-
tions to help children cope with crises and problems. |

Woods will demonstrate how to make puppets out of paper
and cloth, and also how to convert a favorite soft roy. The pro-
gram will be of interest to teachers, parents and anyone con-
cerned with the welfare and entertainment of young children.

There is no charge and pre-registration is not required. Call
