Canada, was in North Vancouver recently with a troupe of 13
students from the Toronto dance school. They were performing a
showcase of contemporary and classical pas de deux and solo
works at Centennial Theatre, including Peter and the Wolf. A
Companion of the Order of Canada, Oliphant established the Na-
tional Ballet School! in 1959. As well as director and principal of
the school, Oliohant was associate artistic director of the Na-
tional Ballet of Canada from 1969 to 1975. She continues to

teach at the school on a regular basis.
