Capilano Lake British Properties Capilano River North Van kept municipal clerk busy public hearing reports and policy and planning committee minutes) so at least we have some type of information that we can give the public the day after, as well as staff who may have had reports requested from them by council.”’ Accuracy is one of the major responsibilities of the deputy clerk's job. Says Kenny, ‘‘We have to en- sure that the minutes of all coun- cil meetings accurately reflect the actions of council, because, in fact, the minutes do reflect the history of the municipality.’’ Kenny lists legal issues and time constraints as a couple of other pressures that keep clerks every- where on their toes. Council business is conducted under the auspices of the Municipal Act, ‘‘and it is our job to ensure that everything is done correctly, which means legally. “It is always the pressure of thinking on your feet here. We are working very closely with the public and they ask questions to which you cither have to be able to give them the answer or at least know where to get the answer from. And at very short notice.”” After a short break to stop the howling office air conditioner, Kenny admits that the workload has increased dramatically in the last few years, “People are becoming more and more aware. They realize that the municipal government is the gov- ernment that is closest to the peo- ple and titis council has always made it known that they want to know the concerns and wishes of the ratepayers.”’ Kenny likes music, five-pin bowling and watching television in her free time. Kenny’s fondest memory? “The staff ! have been fortu- nate enough to work with in North Vancouver. The closeness and the feeling that people have working here. There is a lot of pride and good friendship.
