In a penalty-filled game, the Chiefs attack came alive early in the game when Jordie Walker scored the first of his two goals. Further pressure by the Chiefs paid off when Scott Briden and Don Sinclair notched two more goals, closing the first period 3-0. In the second period, Ron Pifer scored early for Sailors before Scoit Blainey and Walker scored again, increasing the Chiefs lead to 5-1, Then Sailors goalie Rob Madore shut down the Chiefs’ constant at- tack. In the dying minutes of the game Sailors got two quick goals by Al Riediinger and, in the last minute, Bruno Dipaima found the net. In other games, North Shore Hustlers easily outlasted Raven Rangers 7-3, Lyanwood Chasers overpowered Pemberton Station Steamers 6-1, and Coach House Flyers won their game by forfeit to Westwood Honda. Special Olympians bring home medals THE NORTH Shore Special Olympics Club notched some out- standing bowling and_ skiing finishes in March, Special Olym- pics Month. In Kimberley, eight North Shore skiers showed their strength on the slopes by competing against more than 70 athletes from B.C. and Alberta. Wendy Miles placed second in downhill and third in giant slalom, and Lorraine McLatchey finished third in slalom. North Shore Special Olympian Norbie Puls showed his bowling prowess by winning the best pins over average trophy at the bowiing tourney in Burnaby. The 3rd annual North Shore Special Olympic bowling tourney held March 11 at Thunderbird Lanes, drew more than 80 athletes from the North Shore and Van- couver. The North Shore also put five teams in the tourney they hosted at Thunderbird Lanes, where they won a second and a fifth place. North Shore trophy winners and outstanding bowlers were: Joey Barker, David Brewer, Margaret Barry, Lynn Butchard, Jeffrey Keast and Curtis Kieaman. Barry and Butchard were among five North Shore athletes who travelled to Prince George to represent the club on March 17 and 18. In July, more than 800 athletes from across Canada will converge on Vancouver for the Special Olympics National Games, where nine North Shore athletes wil} be competing in soccer, swimming and track and field. championship, while MeGilt Bluehawks, coached by Andy Demeule, finished a close third. [In the playoffs, Lonsdale Chevron produced a perfect 5-0-0 record in the round robin series, defeating McGill Bluehawks 4-3 in an intense and exciting tier 1 final at the Lonsdale Recreation Cen- tre. Scoring for Lonsdale Chevron were David Stevens, Andrew Dur- nin, Darrell Dawson and Shawn Berringer, who netted the game winner with 1:22 left in the game.
