CRASS ‘north s THE VOICE OF NORTH AND WEST VANCOUVE! 19 - Friday, July 21, 1989 - North Shore News New Integra is a performance car designed around the driver domiiatea recent IMSA Interna- tional Sedans series competition, accounting for two Manufacturer’s Championships in the past three seasons. THE STARTING point for the Honda designers who created the new Integra models was to im- prove on what had come before. Their objective was to build on the strengths of the previous gen- eration of Integras, concentrating on every area from styling to per- formance. In the process, they developed an. entirely new automobile — there is not a single major compo- nent that has been carried over from the first-generation Integras. The new Integra three-door and four-door sport automobiles are sophisticated, technologically- advanced, aerodynamically-styled and designed around the driver. They have the first-class ac- commodations and high quality that have become synonymous with Acura, yet continue to project the sporty and youthful image es- tablished by the first-generation Integra. . They are longer, lower, wider and have more cargo space than their predecsssors. The new Integra has a more powerful DOHC engine, four- wheel double-wishbone indepen- dent suspension, more driver and Passenger room and advanced technology such as Anti-Lock Brakes (ALB), yet its essential per- sonality remains unchanged — it is truly a performance car for serious drivers. The 1990 Integras come in two body styles: three-door and four- door sedan. The three-door is a sporty hatchback designed to ap- peal to motorists who enjoy spirited driving. The four-door is in the Euro- pean sports sedan tradition, offer- ing performance, clean stylish looks and family-type versatility. Both versions of the all-new 1990 Integras are fully equipped with a broad range of standard features, which include speed-sen- sitive power-assisted steering, four-wheel disc brakes, tinted glass, and numerous comfort and convenience items. To give Canadian buyers a greater choice, a new-series — GS — has been added to the previous- ly available RS and LS series. The GS includes such standard features as an Anti-Lock Braking (ALB) system (optional on four-door models), alloy wheels, audiophile sound system and, on the three- door, a rear body-colored spoiler. The new Acura Division has created a lot of history in a very short time. In little more than two years the division has demon- strated its ability to successfully compete in both sales and service against the top domestics and im- port nameplates in the luxury/ performance market. The next important chapter lies ahead with the introduction of the all-new second-generation Acura Integra in the spring of 1989, followed by continued develop- ment and evolution of exciting, performance-oriented Acura automobiles. Performance has always been a strong point fer Acura, on both the street and on the race track.
