Steam train
excursion slated

THE NORTH Vancouver-based
Royal Hudson steam engine will
team up with Alberta’s Bullet
Nosed Betty this October in a
1,250-mile Great Canadian Steam
Railway Excursion through B. Cc.
and into Alberta.

According to Royal Hudson
Steam Train Society (RHSTS)
general manager Ron Treend the
five-day trip is the largest two-
engine steam excursion ever orga-
nized.

The trip will leave Oct. 21 from
the Via Rail station in Vancouver
and steam through Kamloops,
Jasper, Prince George and 100
Mile House on its way back to the
Hudson’s home BC Rail station in
North Vancouver.

Cost of a one-way Vancouver-
to-Jasper ticket will be $649. The
round trip excursion will cost
$1,498.

Treend said the price will cover
hotels, two meals per day on the
train, a nightly hotel banquet, bus
transfers and luggage handling.

The train will overnight in
Kamloops, Prince George and 1Q0
Mile House.

He said ticket prices were
estimated on 600 passengers going
to Jasper and 300 taking the full
round-trip.

“But we could take 700 or 800,"
Treend said.

The Royal Hudson was joined i in
May by the Bullet Nose, also.
known as engine 6060, in the
season opener of the Royal Hud-
son’s regular North Vancouver-
to-Squamish run.

The 6060 is operated by Alber-
ta’s Rocky Mountain Rail Society.

Purpose of the five-day’ trip,
Treend said, is to take the 6060
home to Jasper, raise the profiles
of both engines and to make
money for the non-profit Royal
Hudson Steam Train and the
Alberta) Rocky Mountain Rail
