THE WEST Vancouver Soccer Club has asked the District of West Vancouver for permission to build a new clubhouse at Ambleside Park. The club, with over 1,100 members and a history dating back to the 1920s, wishes to reconstruct the existing changeroom facility, which is in very poor condition. The new building would be a two-storey facility which would provide office space, a mecting area, storage space, kitchen, washrooms and changing facilities — as well as a focal point for the sizeable organization. Bill Woods appeared before district council Monday to ask for a $35,000 grant towards the pro- ject, as well as permission to Million dollar contract awarded A $1,141,302 contract has been awarded to Graehold Construction of West Vancouver to reconstruct the Lone Tree Creek bridges and approaches on the Garibaldi Highway 99. Work on the half-kilometre pro- ject, located 9.4 kilometres north of Horseshoe Bay, will start short- ly with up to 30 persons employed. The job involves construction and paving of four-lane highway bridge approaches and construc- tion of two adjacent pre-stressed concrete stringer bridges. One will be a single span 71 metres long and 10 metres wide, while the other will be a single span 44 metres long and 10 metres wide. The abutments and piers for both structures will be on spread footings. The installation of a 40-metre- long doube wide Acrow detour bridge and construction of a tem- porary detour road at Lone Tree Creek will have to be done before the main jok can commence. Graehold submitted the lowest of nine tenders for the job. Total cost, including engineering, mate- trials and contingencies, is $1,400,000. The soccer association plans to raise another $35,000. Council referred the matter to the Parks and Recreation Commit- tee for advice.
