IT’S TAX sale time for the three North Shore
municipalities but if past expereince holds true
buyers won’t find much in the way of bargains.

While newspaper adver-
tisements carry extensive lists
of homes that are being put
on the market because of
unpaid taxes, few of the
homes will actually be sold.

Past experience shows that
the vast majority of owners
pay delinquent taxes before
the date of the sale, enabling
them to retain possession of
their home and stop the
municipalities from selling
them to recoup the original
tax loss.

The municipality has the
power under the Municrpal
Act to sell homes and pro-
perties on which taxes have
not been paid for two years.

If delinquent taxes are
paid before the date of the
sale, the property 1s
withdrawn from the tax sale

In the City of North Van
couver, the published hist of
tax sale propertics, lists 32
properties which are cligible

for the sale. Thirteen of
those are suites or strata-titl-
ed apartments.

The list in the District of
North Vancouver is
significantly longer. There
are 51 properties listed from
almost every area of the
municipality and a further
2S strata-titled properties
The majority of those are
located in the 3200 and 3300
blocks of Mountain
Highway, all covered by a
single strata plan.
