Pavement prints-a new art Ganfays

absurd - then meet Mary Blaze, a West Vancouver
pnntmaker who’s unique idea may very well
revolutionize the traditional concept of print-
making.

she calls Environmental
Monoprints. She has expand-
ed the usual printmaking pro- _
cess - the inking of copper or
zinc plates and printing them
on an etching press, and ap-
plied it to the environment.

For the past eleven years,
she has been associated with
the Dundarave Print
Workshop, initially studying
under internationally ac-
claimed printmaker, Wayne
Eastcott.

For about ten of these
years, she has nurtured the
idea of applying intaglio
(putting ink down into
crevices or lines) to the en-
vironment. Throughout her
life, whenever she came
across cracks or crevices in
surfaces, she would visualize
their image in print. One day
a crevice on a road surface
put the idea into her head of
actually developing the con-
cept, and by applying the
