A8 - Wednesday, October 12, 1983 - North Shore News the world outside... VICTORIA - Both © sides sat and waited over the weekend with the result that further meetings bet- ween Operation Solidarity and Premier Bill Bennett seem unlikely. Following the initial meeting of Solidarity leaders and the Premier, the anti-government group had requested a se- cond meeting, suggesting they meet on Tuesday, Oct. 14. That was ruled out but the possibility of a meeting over the Thanksgiving weekend was suggested. It didn’t come to pass. Meeting chances fade after failure Norman Spector, deputy to the Premier, said Mon- day that Solidarity members had failed to meet with cabinet ministers over the weekend, as they had been requested to. Where were they? Rev. Jim Roberts, one of three leaders of the group, said they spent the long weekend waiting to hear from Bennett. Failure of the two sides to get together as the Oct. 31 deadline for the start of massive government lay- offs nears, could indicate further face-to-face meetings won't be held.
