by enlightened Social Democrats. Remember in
Britain, on January 13th, 1969, when a student
asked Prime Minister Trudeau ‘What society
would you choose to make Canada: Socialist or
. Capitalist?’ The Prime Minister's reply, ‘Labour
Party Socialist -- or Cuban Socialisi or Chinese
' Socialist -- Socialism from each according to his |
means.’ Statements of this nature parallel a
‘statement made by a former Chairman of the
- British Trades Union, ‘it must be impossible for
self-employment to exist...

This steady and progressive drift towards an
egalitarian state was prophesied in 1961. ‘I
‘would like to see socialists feeling free to
espouse whatever political.trends or to use
whatever constitutional toois happen to fit each
particularty problem at each particular time.’
Socialism ‘must stand for different things in
different parts of Canada.’
